The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the economic development organization for Hays and Caldwell Counties, will host the 2020 Greater San Marcos Economic Outlook, a live-and-virtual event that will examine the data, issues, and strategies impacting the region’s economy over the next year.

The event is slated for Thursday, Nov. 12, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the Embassy Suites/San Marcos Conference Center.

The event’s keynote speaker, Charles Dougherty, is a vice president & economist with Wells Fargo Securities. He will address the post-election and COVID-impacted state of the Greater San Marcos economy and what to expect in the coming year. Dougherty, an expert in the commercial real estate, housing, and construction sectors of U.S. regional and macro economy, has had commentaries featured in Bloomberg News and The Washington Post.

The event will also feature Adriana Cruz, Executive Director of Economic Development & Tourism from the Office of Governor Greg Abbott, who will provide comments on economic development across the State and the outlook of the Texas economy as a whole.

In addition, Economic Outlook will host a panel of local experts who will share insights on real estate development activity and its impact on the current and future economy of the Greater San Marcos region. Those experts are Robert Allen, president and CEO of the Texas Economic Development Corporation; Terry Mitchell, president of Momark Development; and Buck Cody, principal at Endeavor Real Estate Group. GSMP president Jason Giulietti will moderate the panel discussion.

“Even with the challenges of COVID-19, the Greater San Marcos region saw record economic growth and opportunities in 2020,” Giulietti said. “As we look forward to the upcoming year, there is still so much uncertainty. Our hope is to examine the national, state and regional economies while balancing the continued unprecedented growth of the Texas Innovation Corridor.”

Virtual and in-person tickets can be purchased online through EventBrite. In-person event tickets are available on a limited basis due to COVID-19 restrictions. Attendees will be required to follow COVID-19 safety protocols.
