The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the economic development organization serving the City of San Marcos and the communities within Hays and Caldwell Counties, is seeking an enthusiastic and highly-organized receptionist and office operations coordinator to provide administrative and clerical support in a fast-paced environment with high visibility and interaction with regional business leaders.

Job Title:  Economic Development Coordinator

Reports to:  President

FLSA Status:  Non-exempt

SUMMARY:  GSMP is a public-private partnership whose mission is to increase economic opportunity for our community through the attraction of high quality jobs and investment to the region. Our office is located on the historic square in the heart of downtown San Marcos. This individual will the first point of contact for visitors, from local guests to out-of-town corporate executives, and will be the first impression of our organization. Must be detail-oriented, adhere to strict quality standards, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible as the main entry point for GSMP; greeting and hosting visitors, prospects and the public during regular business hours. Handling incoming inquiries and requests including answering front desk phone, managing general contact email, handling incoming mail, and forwarding mail, messages and email to appropriate staff.
  • Manage and order office supplies and deliveries. Oversee office maintenance including contractors for cleaning, recycling and pest control.
  • Update calendars and schedule group meetings on behalf of GSMP Staff. Prepare board room for visitors and meetings including coordinating with caterers and any AV needs.
  • Assist with ongoing GSMP meetings to include bi-monthly Board of Directors meetings and monthly Investor Meetings. This includes preparing board books, preparing minutes, etc.
  • Support GSMP events by overseeing registration, producing nametags and assisting with processing onsite ticket sales if needed.
  • Processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Main point of contact for GSMP staff in scheduling offsite group meetings and reserving GSMP meeting space offsite.
  • Drive to offices locally and in region for documents, signatures, materials and supplies if needed.
  • Responsible for gathering staff timesheets and credit card statements for approval by President.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Liberal Arts or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience working within a professional office environment.
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Client-centered customer service skills.
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.
  • Highly organized. Able to multitask and manage time wisely skills ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and willingness to learn new platforms. Ability or experience with databases.
  • Able to work independently, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects.
  • Must have dependable vehicle for office errands and local meetings; able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be available to work during regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Job Title:  Director, Existing Business & Workforce Development

Reports to:  President

FLSA Status:  Exempt

SUMMARY:  The Greater San Marcos Partnership is a 501c(6) public-private partnership whose mission is to increase economic opportunity for the Greater San Marcos region through the attraction of high quality jobs and investment. Our office is located on the historic square in the heart of downtown San Marcos. This position will be responsible for GSMP’s Existing Business and Workforce Development programs, implementing the region’s economic development strategy (Vision 2020) for the City of San Marcos as well as the regional community partners in Hays and Caldwell Counties. Must be detail-oriented, adhere to strict quality standards, and be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct GSMP’s Existing Business & Workforce Development programs and initiatives. Foster relationships with local companies and assist on their expansion and retention projects. Facilitate introductions with city and county staff, and other resources to assist with issues. Meet regularly with local workforce development and training partners including Texas State University, Austin Community College, and the region’s School Disricts to work on training issues.
  • Through Existing Business acitivities and surveys, identify issues which may impede local firms’ success. Document and track data in GSMP’s CRM systems and develop reports on issues.
  • Develop new strategies and programs to help retain and grow local firms including small business and entrepreneurial programs.
  • Nurture and develop strong relationships with local government, business organizations, regional economic development organizations, industry associations, chambers of commerce and higher educational institutions.
  • Prepare an annual plan of work including identifying and scheduling corporate visits to complete Existing Business surveys. 
  • Enter, compile and analyze data from corporate surveys to identify trends in the local economy and proactively determine appropriate solutions.  
  • Work with regional community partners to assist with Existing Business visits with regional companies.
  • Attend City Council meetings, County Commissioner meetings as appropriate. Work closely with regional community partner staff.  Some meetings may be after hours.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Strong presentation skills and ability to lead meetings.
  • Other related duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-­‐year university or college with a degree in Business Administration, Economics, or closely related field.
  • A minimum of 3-­‐5 years relevant experience in economic development or within a Chamber of Commerce or similar organization. Experience in Business Retention & Expansion activities.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems including Executive Pulse and/or Synchronist.
  • Strong attention to detail and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Knowledge of local industry and economy.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
