Job Description: 

The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP) is a nationally recognized economic development organization whose mission is to positively impact the regional economy of Hays and Caldwell Counties through the expansion of high quality jobs and investment. GSMP is the economic development contractor working on behalf of the City of San Marcos, Hays and Caldwell Counties. Our close-knit team will work to implement a five-year economic development strategic plan called Vision2025 which includes marketing & promotion, business recruitment, existing business retention and expansion, workforce development, and research. This position will take a leadership role in working with our exisiting business and workforce assets to help them continue to grow and thrive in the region.

 

The Greater San Marcos region has received top spots in numerous rankings from “Best Place to Move To” and been recognized by Forbes Magazine as “America’s Next Great Metropolis” due to its economic and population growth, which is outpacing other Texas metros.  GSMP is seeking an experienced, energetic and highly motivated economic development professional to be responsible for engaging and growing our exisiting businesses and supporting the strengthening and development of our current and future workforce. Located on the historic square in the heart of downtown San Marcos, this position will be an important member of GSMP's award-winning team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with members of the team including Marketing, Business Attraction, and Research in the development of expansion and rentention strategy.
  • Develop a comprehensive workforce development strategy to support current and future needs of our workforce.
  • Create and manage our small business and entrepreneurship programming and offerings.
  • Collaborate with our local economic development partners on a comprehensive business visitation program.
  • Build on exisiting relationships with partner organizations and play and active role engaging their resources, assets and expertise to grow our regions businesses
  • Work closely with our independent school districts, community colleges and 4 year institutions to ensure our economic development efforts are aligned and addressing the needs of the current and future business community.
  • Maintain and report activities via a CRM database.
  • Provide presentations to interested parties on regional economic activity.
  • Maintain relationships and working knowledge of new developments and real estate activity.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders and regional partners including regional communities, the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development & Tourism, and others.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of economic development processes and issues with in-depth knowledge of practices and trends.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to work events outside of normal business hours.

  • Team player with positive attitude. Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving ability.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics or field related to the position required. 
  • At least 5 years relevant industry experience in economic development, sales, or business development.
