Internship Stories: Giselle Myers

Giselle Myers joined Team GSMP as an intern for 2017-2018 school year. She's graduating this month and off to start her career in San Antonio. We sat down with Giselle to talk about her time as a member of Team GSMP before she left. Here's what she shared with us!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

My name is Giselle and I am graduating from Texas State University in May 2018 with a degree in Marketing. I am originally from Houston and I have loved getting to know the Central Texas region during my four years as a student. Within the past two semesters, I have really enjoyed being exposed to the business side of this community as an intern at the Greater San Marcos Partnership.

What did you do at GSMP:

Day-to-day, I was lucky enough to get to work on some of the digital marketing objectives, newsletters, social media, general website maintenance, as well as GSMP events which was a great way to understand the voice of the organization and the community simultaneously.

We also started our internship in the middle of a move, which was a great way to get steps in at the beginning of the semester. By December, we got to be a part of GSMP’s Open House and Ribbon Cutting. This was a great opportunity to get to know some of the community members a little bit better, and see who was instrumental in making the dream of GSMP’s new office into a reality. Fast forward to the second semester, we got to see the same thing happen not only with investor/board meetings, but also with signature events like Education Summit and Economic Outlook.

What was your favorite project or event?

My favorite experience from the past year was 100% exhibiting at SXSW. I got to promote the region to audiences from all around the world and meet people from all kinds of industries. I loved seeing how our region stood strong amidst an international audience!

Another program I have enjoyed being a part of was also the monthly speaker series, BIZtalks. I feel like I get to know the community a little more each month, and I really enjoy hearing experienced business owners share their words of wisdom for the younger and aspiring entrepreneurs. I hope to come back for BIZtalks even after my internship finishes! (Read all of the BIZtalks blogs here!)

What else did you feel is important?

Overall, I loved feeling like I was a part of the community. I got involved more than ever before and attended charity events and networked with young professionals in the area.

My biggest takeaway from my two semesters here was really working with this great team who helped me learn and grow as I am fixing to set off into the “real world”.
