Hello Team GSMP: Mike Kamerlander
Hello Team GSMP is a monthly series here on our blog where you get to know about members of our team beyond what's on our resumes. This month, we sat down with VP Mike Kamerlander, longest serving member of Team GSMP and recent DCI 40 Under 40 Rising Star in Economic Development. Mike successfully worked on major business attraction projects in the region including Amazon, Best Buy, EPIC Piping, and Fashion Glass & Mirror.
Mike is orginally from Florida but got to Texas as soon as he could. A University of Texas at Austin graduate, Mike has called the Austin-area home for over a decade. He lives in the area with his wife, Mackenzie, and their son, Carter.
What do you like most about your role at GSMP?
MK: I like working with many different people across various professions to get a project done. Any given project will require me to work with government staff, general contractors, lawyers, brokers, consultants and elected officials. While this is sometimes challenging, it is also great to learn more about each discipline and how each piece is important to the success of the project.
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
MK: Without a doubt, my biggest professional achievement has been the Amazon fulfillment center in San Marcos. It is an impressive project from whichever angle you look at it. The ability to get the deal done with all of the stakeholders so quickly is a great takeaway and something that we can market for future projects. The best part is 3,000+ jobs for our area residents that include real benefits and educational opportunities.
What three words would you use to describe your role?
MK: Facilitator, competitor, evangelist.
What is the last book you read for fun?
MK: Dan Brown's Inferno
What’s your next Netfilx binge?
MK: House of Cards
